Do I need licenses or permission to press my record?
You need the same rights to press a record that you need to release it. If the recording and the songs are yours, you are covered.
If you are pressing a cover, you need a mechanical license before the record is manufactured. Samples need clearance from the rights holder. A remix needs permission from the owner of the composition, and from the master rights holder if you are using the original recording. Manufacturing does not create any of those rights, so they have to be in place first.
We may ask you to show the documentation. That is normal and it protects you as much as it protects us. When do I need a license? · Where do I get a mechanical license?
