Vinyl pressing · Pressing and distribution

One partner, both formats

Vinyl pressing and distribution, under one roof.

Pressing plants stop at the loading dock. Distributors stopped carrying records. We run the pressing and the distribution, so the record and the digital release come from the same place, planned around the same date.

  • Pressed at our UK plant
  • 150+ stores and platforms
  • 100% of royalties yours
How it works together

Two jobs, one partner

  1. 01 Plan the release once Same masters, same artwork, same release date. The pressing is priced in the configurator; the digital release is set up in your distribution dashboard.
  2. 02 We press it Cut, plated and pressed at our UK plant. Five to six weeks from approved assets, with at least 10 test pressings you approve first.
  3. 03 We release it The digital release goes to 150+ stores and streaming platforms and typically appears within 24 hours to 7 days. You keep 100% of your royalties.
  4. 04 The dates line up Because both jobs sit with one partner, the six week pressing and the digital go-live are planned against the same day instead of against each other.
The part everyone gets wrong

Vinyl takes six weeks. Plan backwards.

Streams go live in days; records take weeks. Most first pressings miss their own release day because nobody worked the dates backwards. Pick your release day and the plan writes itself.

Pressing for Record Store Day 2027? It falls on 17 April. On typical lead times that means vinyl assets with the plant by mid-February, and earlier is safer.

Release strategy

Records in hand and streams live on the same day.

    Both sides of the ledger

    The pressing

Records from £4.55 each, ex VAT Plain-label 12" at 500 units, UK shipping and test pressings in
Sell at a typical £25 The margin on a copy is yours, at the merch table or your store

    The release

Live in 24 hours to 7 days The digital release lands everywhere the same week your records press

Build the exact pressing price in the configurator. The distribution side is part of your plan, not a percentage of your sales.

    Why one account

    What this replaces

    A plant plus a distributor

Two companies that never talk to each other, and you in the middle reconciling their dates. The usual reason vinyl misses release day.

    Crowdfunding platforms

Your run waits on a funding goal and the platform takes a cut of every copy. Here the run is yours from the first record.

    On-demand pressing

Printed one at a time, weeks per copy, no run in your hands. Fine for a single sale, no way to stock a tour.

    Digital-only distributors

Most stopped carrying records years ago. The release goes everywhere digital, and the vinyl is your problem again.

    Quick answers

    Pressing and distribution questions

Can Unchained press my record and distribute it too?

Yes. We press at our UK plant and we run digital distribution to 150+ stores and streaming platforms. They are two jobs, but one partner runs both, so the records and the streams get planned around the same release day.

Should I release digital and vinyl on the same day?

Both work. Same day is the simplest and keeps every platform in step. Vinyl first gives the people who bought the record a two week head start and makes the pressing feel like the event it is. The planner above maps either.

How long before release day do I need to start?

Seven weeks for the vinyl side: six weeks of pressing from approved assets plus a week in hand. The digital side needs days, not weeks, which is exactly why the dates should be planned together.

Do I need licenses before pressing a cover?

Yes. A cover needs a mechanical license before manufacture, the same rights you need to release it digitally. We handle mechanical licensing for covers at $15 per song.

Can I still sell records myself?

They are your records. Sell them at shows, on your own store, on Bandcamp, anywhere. The run ships to you, the rights stay yours, and nothing about the distribution side changes that.

    What does the bundle cost?

The pressing is priced live in the configurator, ex VAT with UK shipping included. Distribution comes with your plan rather than as a percentage of your sales, so a bigger release does not mean a bigger cut.
