What needs to be included in a valid license?

Sometimes, Unchained Music will request a license from you if we believe that you are using samples, visual images, or musical compositions that need to be licensed. When we ask for a license we generally expect the following parts to be present:

  1. Identification of Parties: The names and contact information of the licensor and the licensee.
  2. Description of the Sample or Composition: A clear and precise description of the sample or composition being licensed, including the title of the original track, the artist, the duration of the sample, and any other relevant details.
  3. Grant of License: This section specifies the rights being granted to the licensee. It should outline whether the license is exclusive or non-exclusive, the territories where the sample can be used, and the specific uses allowed (e.g., commercial release, live performance, streaming).
  4. Term of the License: The duration of the license agreement. It should state the start date and whether the license is for a fixed term or in perpetuity.
  5. Royalties and Payment Terms: Details on how the licensor will be compensated. This can include upfront payment, royalties from sales or streams, or a combination of both. It should also specify payment schedules and methods.
  6. Credit and Attribution: Requirements for how the licensor must be credited in any releases or performances that include the sample.
  7. Termination: Conditions under which the license can be terminated by either party, including breach of agreement or other specified events.

If you provide us a license without this information, or the information presented is unclear, Unchained Music may refuse the provided license in order to protect you and the Unchained Music platform.
