What is Apple Music motion artwork?

Apple Music motion artwork is the moving version of your release art: a short looping video that plays in place of the static image on Apple Music. There are two kinds, and they follow different rules.

Album motion is an animated version of your album cover. It has to be animation or motion graphics rather than live-action video, and it should loop seamlessly, so avoid fades to white or black.

Artist page motion is a short filmed video that plays at the top of your Apple Music artist profile. This one runs the other way: live-action footage only, no animation or graphics, and no singing or lip-syncing on camera.

Apple currently supports motion artwork for EPs, albums and artist profiles, not for singles.

The file Apple expects: a .mov in Apple ProRes 4444, 422, 422 HQ or 422 LT, sized 3840 x 3840 for the square 1:1 version and 2048 x 2732 for the 3:4 version, at 23.976, 24, 25, 29.97 or 30 fps, running 15 to 35 seconds, in Rec. 709 or sRGB, with no audio track. If your editor has an export audio option, turn it off before you render.

Apple reviews motion artwork in around 5 to 7 business days, and it appears on or after your release or pre-order date. Send your files to the team 2 to 3 weeks before release so review time never touches your date: contact support with your release name and the finished .mov files, and we will take it from there.
