Every artist on Apple Music has a permanent numeric ID. It is the number at the end of an artist page URL, and it is how Apple's systems refer to an artist internally, independent of name changes, aliases or artists who share a name.
The most common reason to need it is release mapping. When you send a new release through a distributor, the ID is how you point the release at your existing Apple Music profile instead of letting the store guess by name. A correct ID means no duplicate artist pages and no tracks landing on a stranger's profile.
You will also be asked for it when claiming your profile in Apple Music for Artists, and by marketing tools that build smart links or pull catalogue data. Anywhere a form says artist ID and mentions Apple, this is the number it wants.
If a link is all you have, that works too. Album and song links do not contain the artist ID directly, so the tool resolves them through Apple's public lookup service and returns the artist behind the release.
A permanent numeric identifier Apple assigns to every artist. It appears at the end of the artist page URL on music.apple.com and stays the same even if the artist changes their name.
Open your artist page on music.apple.com and look at the URL. The number after the last slash is the ID. This tool does the same thing, plus name search and resolving album or song links to the artist.
