What should I listen for on a test pressing?

Play both sides all the way through, on a system you know well, and listen for the things a record does that a file does not.

Distortion that gets worse as the side approaches the label. Harsh sibilance on vocals. A faint pre-echo of a loud passage a moment before it arrives. Clicks and pops, and whether they land in the same place on every copy or only on one. The running order, the gaps between tracks, and whether the two sides sit at the same level.

A fault in the same place on every test copy is in the cut and we can address it. A one-off is a pressing artifact on that copy. Either way, tell your contact which side it is on and roughly how far into it.

Do that inside four working days of the test pressing arriving. Past that the lead time extends and the date on your quote is no longer guaranteed. Do I get test pressings?
