Symphonic Distribution Review 2026: Pricing and Fees Compared
Symphonic Distribution in 2026: Starter at $29.99 a year, Partner's 85/15 split and three-year term, payouts and support, compared with Unchained Music.
Symphonic is one of the longer-running independent distributors, built for labels and artists who want technology and a team behind their releases. In 2026 it sells two distribution plans: Starter, a $29.99-a-year DIY plan, and Partner, a percentage deal by application. Every Symphonic price and term below was checked on Symphonic's own pricing page, FAQ and help center on 5 November 2026.
This comparison puts Symphonic next to Unchained Music on the things that change your bottom line: what you pay, what you keep, how long you are tied in, how you get paid and who answers when something breaks. We are Unchained, so each Symphonic figure links to the Symphonic page it comes from.

Pricing Breakdown
Symphonic
Starter, $29.99 a year per primary artist. You keep 100% of royalties from streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon. The plan covers one primary artist with unlimited featured and remix artists, royalty splits through SplitShare at no extra cost, the Release Campaign Builder and help desk support. Symphonic does take a percentage of user-generated content income from YouTube, Meta and TikTok, but its pricing page does not publish the rate. Release volumes are subject to its Trust and Safety guidelines.
Partner, by application. There are no sign-up or release fees. Instead, the standard Partner deal is an 85/15 split: Symphonic keeps 15% of your royalties from streaming services, with a custom percentage on YouTube, Meta and TikTok income. In return you get unlimited artists, a client manager (by approval) and marketing to DSPs such as Spotify and Apple Music. Symphonic says it is selective, and applications take about five business days.
Extras. Music video distribution costs $25 per video for Spotify or Vevo, or $95 per video for a larger network, and you earn 70% of video royalties. Marketing and publishing services can carry extra fees on both plans.
Unchained Music
Grow, $19.99 a year. One artist profile, unlimited releases to 150+ platforms, 100% of royalties, revenue splits, monthly royalty analytics, 5-day human-reviewed processing, third-party playlist pitching and self-serve ads. YouTube Content ID is available at a 20% commission.
Pro, $34.99 a year. Everything in Grow, plus three artist profiles (more at $9.99 a year each), 2-day processing, editorial playlist pitching, lyrics delivery to Apple Music, and paid add-ons for Dolby Atmos, video and Beatport.
Artist and Label Services, by application. A team for A&R, advertising, release strategy, sync and account management, with advances and manufacturing deals, physical distribution and neighboring rights collection. See all Unchained plans.
The difference that matters most: Unchained's second tier is still a flat annual price at 100% of streaming royalties. Symphonic's step up from Starter is a percentage deal. That suits labels that want Symphonic's team working their releases, but on the standard terms it costs 15% of your streaming royalties.
Distribution Reach
Symphonic says it delivers to hundreds of digital platforms and names Asian services such as Tencent, Alibaba, NetEase, JioSaavn and KKBox. That depth in Asian markets is a real strength if your listeners are there.
Unchained delivers to 150+ platforms, covering the major streaming services, with video and Beatport distribution on Pro, physical distribution through Artist and Label Services, and vinyl pressing as a paid add-on.
Royalties and Payouts
Symphonic pays monthly once your balance passes a $50 minimum for distribution royalties ($5 for publishing administration), and notes that royalties can take two to three months to arrive from streaming platforms. Payments go through Tipalti, which may charge fees depending on where you live.
Unchained posts 100% of what stores pay for your music to your account, minus payment processing fees, and you withdraw from your dashboard once royalties arrive. Royalty advances are open to apply for on either plan and are repaid from future royalties, with no equity or rights transfer.
Contract Terms and Exclusivity
This is the biggest structural difference. Symphonic's FAQ says a release submitted to stores through Symphonic cannot be redistributed through another distributor until the end of the contract term, and its Partner plan is an exclusive deal for a three-year term. You keep ownership of your music either way, and Symphonic is clear about that.
Unchained's distribution agreement is non-exclusive and runs year to year. You can delete a release at any time during the term, and when the agreement ends your releases are taken down from stores.
Marketing and Label Services
Most of Symphonic's marketing is sold separately: Partner clients can submit releases for DSP playlist pitching, and fee-based marketing services sit on top. Symphonic also runs sync through its selective Bodega Sync brand and offers publishing administration, Content ID, SoundExchange collection, neighboring rights and physical distribution to clients who qualify.
Unchained includes third-party playlist pitching and self-serve ads on Grow, adds editorial pitching on Pro, and offers managed advertising (20% management fee), release strategy and sync by application. Artist and Label Services puts a team on your releases for A&R, marketing, advances and physical distribution.
AI Music Policy
Symphonic accepts music and covers made with AI or AI assistance as long as you disclose it, and will not approve content that impersonates or infringes human-made work.
Unchained is stricter. Its AI statement and content policy require genuine human creative input, reject tracks made substantially or entirely by AI, and rule out AI training on music distributed through Unchained without the rights holder's consent.
Support
Symphonic runs a help desk with no phone line and says most requests get a reply within 24 to 48 hours. Partner clients get personalized support.
Unchained support runs through the support form, with replies within 2 business days on Pro and 3 on Grow, and a dedicated account manager on Artist and Label Services.
Who Should Choose Which?
Symphonic is the better fit if:
- You run a label or a busy roster and want a team pitching your releases to DSPs, and you are happy to pay a percentage for it
- A big share of your listeners is in Asian markets
- You want publishing administration, neighboring rights and sync under one roof
- You release music made mostly with AI tools and are willing to disclose it
Unchained Music is the better fit if:
- You want a flat annual price and 100% of your streaming royalties on every self-serve plan
- You release for up to three artists and do not want to give up a percentage to get there
- You want non-exclusive terms you can leave at the end of any year
- You want editorial playlist pitching without a revenue-share deal
- You want a distributor that rejects fully AI-generated tracks
The Bottom Line
Symphonic is a serious distributor with real strengths: a large network with good Asian coverage, a strong offer for labels and a support team that replies quickly. Starter is fair value for one artist at $29.99 a year, though it takes a cut of YouTube, Meta and TikTok income at a rate it does not publish. Partner makes sense for labels that want Symphonic's marketing team, but it means 15% of streaming royalties and a three-year exclusive term.
If you want to keep 100% of your streaming royalties as you grow, Unchained's Grow ($19.99 a year) and Pro ($34.99 a year) plans stay flat-fee and non-exclusive, with editorial pitching, advances and a team available when you want one.
